How to Apply

Applications for the Longhorns in Residence teacher preparation program are managed through UT Austin Graduate Admissions and are accepted annually from August 1 through February 15 Students admitted to the program begin coursework in June.

Before You Apply

Before starting your application, be sure to:

  1. Read the Program Requirements.
  2. Identify three references who can provide letters of recommendation. Recommendations may come from academic, professional, volunteer, or community-based experiences related to education or youth development. We recommend including a mix of academic and professional references.
  3. Have a credit card available to pay the application fee.

Submit Your Application

  1. Complete the online application and answer all required questions.
  2. Provide the names and email addresses of your three references.
  3. Submit your application and pay the application fee.

Once your application is submitted, you will receive instructions for completing the next steps.

After You Apply

Within 48 hours of submitting your application, you will receive an email from UT Austin Graduate Admissions with instructions for accessing the MyStatus portal. There, you will upload required application materials, including:

  • Resume or CV
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Official transcripts
  • Letters of recommendation

Faculty will review all applications. Afterward, you may be selected to participate in a Zoom interview. Faculty will select candidates based on their applications and the Zoom interview.

Tuition and Financial Aid 

Tuition for the Longhorns in Residence program is the same as the College of Education’s graduate tuition rates. The program consists of 18 total credit hours, taken as six credit hours per semester over three semesters. You can estimate your costs using the tuition calculator. 

The Longhorns in Residence program is eligible for federal financial aid. The College of Education also has scholarship opportunities. 
Additionally, partner school districts will pay teacher residents at least $20,000 for the August through May assignment.
